Owning one of the oldest vineyards in the region, Château Ferrand lies on the southern slopes of the Pomerol plateau. It is named for the ferruginous, or iron-rich, soil on which it lies, and which gives the wines of Pomerol their highly characteristic flavour. The estate produces classic Pomerol wines, using a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. These are typically soft and delicate, with a finesse that has brought them an appreciative following, A small gravel-rich area, close to the Pomerol church, contains some of the property’s oldest vines, mainly Merlot, which produce the Château’s finest wine. These grapes are vinified separately and bottled under the Haut-Ferrand label.
