Casa Montes is located 700 metres above sea level in the Tulum Valley in San Juan, the second largest wine producing area in Argentina. The climate is very hote and dry but with cool nights in the summer which optimises the maturity levels of the grapes. The winery was established in 1992 and is owned and managed by the Montes family, a well known and respected family who own San Juan's foremost radio station and newspaper.
The winery has 156 hectares under vine and the team works with 11 different grape varieties including Malbec and Syrah, the grape of the San Juan province. We are currently shipping 3 wines from the Ampakama level, a fresh vibrant Viognier, a rich Malbec and a quirky (in a good way!) Syrah Tannat. We are also offering the Ampakama Intenso Malbec, a step up from the basic Malbec and also two wines from the Don Baltazar range - Chardonnay Viogner and Petit Verdot. |
