When Laurent Gosset (of the original Gosset family) advised us he was planning to sell Chateau de la Grille, we were initially disappointed as our relationship with this stunning Loire property goes back many years. However, we were delighted to learn that the new owners would be the dynamic partnership of Christophe Baudry and Jean-Martin Dufour who have been working together for the past 10 years and producing their own top-end Chinon Wines.
Christophe is a 3rd generation winemaker who has been based in the Chinon region for many years. Jean-Martin moved there in 1993 after gaining his viti-oenologue diploma and immediately turned his energies and passion towards Chinon wine.
Fans of Chateau de la Grille will be delighted to hear that we will continue with the red. We will also be shipping two new wines which we are sure will provde to be just as popular with Chinon fans. Domaine du Roncee is a 55 hectare plot in the heart of the appellation and the Clos de Marronniers is a full and generous wine which is drinking beautifully now but will benefit from a few years ageing. The Cuvee Marie-Justine (named after Christophe's daughter) is one of the best roses we have tasted in its price range with a beautiful salmon-pink colour and an intense nose of exotic fruits. A lovely drink when the sun shines, but also an excellent accompaniment to spicy dishes when the nights draw in. |
